The Corridor: Bali to Lombok to Sumbawa to Komodo
Departing Benoa or Serangan, the first crossing is the Lombok Strait, the Wallace Line, usually broken at Nusa Lembongan or Penida before the Gili Islands and Lombok’s northwest coast near Senggigi. If your holiday only allows two or three days on the water, this segment stands alone: a Bali to Lombok and Gili islands charter can end on Lombok, with a short flight home instead of a sail back against the strait.

Bima is the least used of the four, but useful for mid-length trips: a four-day charter ending at Sumbawa rather than pushing on to Komodo can disembark guests there for a regional flight.
Which Direction Should You Sail?
In the dry season (April through November), eastbound legs take more wind and swell on the nose than westbound ones, though most vessels here are motor yachts or motor-sailing phinisi, so the difference is mostly comfort. Logistics usually decide it instead: starting in Bali places Komodo at the climax of the voyage, while sailing in reverse suits travelers who want to finish with land time in Bali.
What a One-Way Charter Costs
Private crewed charters on this corridor generally run USD 1,200 to 2,500 per night for mid-range motor yachts and smaller phinisi, and USD 3,000 to beyond 8,000 per night for larger luxury phinisi with four to seven cabins. Rates cover the vessel, crew, meals, and fuel; park entry and ranger fees are usually billed separately. The one-way-specific cost is repositioning: if the operator can sell the return leg the surcharge is small or waived, but an empty return sail shows up in the quote. Flexibility on dates and traveling near the start or end of season reliably brings it down.

- Confirm the boat before the flights. Book LBJ or LOP departures only after charter dates are fixed, with a buffer night before any international connection.
- Season: April to November is most settled; December to March brings the west monsoon.
