Most Bali yacht quotes cover the vessel, crew, standard insurance, and fuel for the published itinerary. Day charters to Nusa Penida or Nusa Lembongan usually add water, soft drinks, snorkeling gear, and a set lunch, so day rates read close to all-inclusive. The recurring extras: alcohol beyond a welcome drink, scuba diving, park fees, transfers outside the pickup zone, and crew gratuity.
Multi-day charters east to Komodo work differently. The base rate pays for the yacht and crew only; running costs flow through an APA, an Advance Provisioning Allowance of roughly 25 to 35 percent of the charter fee, paid upfront and reconciled against receipts afterward. Knowing which model applies tells you what lands on a second invoice.
Two pricing models you will meet in Bali

Day rate, near all-inclusive. On day and sunset cruises from Serangan, Benoa, or Sanur, the route, hours, and headcount are fixed, so operators bundle costs into one number: crew, fuel for the route, water and soft drinks, snorkeling gear, towels, and usually lunch. Safety equipment and insurance are the operator’s obligation, never an add-on. You should not see a fuel line on a day-charter invoice unless you changed the route mid-trip.
Base rate plus APA. Overnight, consumption becomes variable, so the industry splits the bill: the base rate covers the vessel, crew wages, and insurance, while the APA, held by the captain as a trip float, pays for fuel burned, food and drinks to your list, and park, anchorage, and port charges. The captain presents receipts at the end; unspent APA comes back to you. This is standard on superyacht charters in Bali and nearly all Komodo liveaboard routes. An APA is not a markup: it is your own money, and you are entitled to see the receipts.
What the base rate always covers
- Crew wages: captain, deckhands, and on larger yachts a chef and stewardess. Only gratuity sits with you, and it is discretionary.
- Vessel insurance. Hull and passenger liability cover are part of operating legally; question any per-guest “insurance fee.”
- Safety equipment: life jackets, flares, radio, first-aid kit.
- Standard water toys: snorkeling gear on almost every boat, paddleboards on most crewed yachts. Motorized toys vary by vessel, so confirm.
- Linen, towels, and cabin amenities on overnight charters.
What usually costs extra
- Fuel beyond the route. Add a stop or extend the hours and the operator revises the quote. On APA charters, a fast motor yacht burns fuel faster than a sailing phinisi.
- Alcohol. Most operators include a welcome drink or modest allowance, then charge bar prices beyond it. On APA charters, imported wine costs more from your provisioning list than local beer.
- Scuba diving. Snorkeling is included; scuba is not. Certified dives are priced per person, gear rental is itemized, and a licensed dive professional’s fee sits inside that price. Tell us in advance if diving matters, since not every yacht carries tanks.
- Park and retribution fees. Nusa Penida charges a small local fee per visitor. Komodo National Park is bigger: entrance, activity, and ranger fees combine into several hundred thousand rupiah per person per day, and rates change, so confirm current pricing at booking. These run through the APA on multi-day trips, or at cost on day charters.
- Transfers, berthing, and gratuity. Hotel transfers are usually included within a set pickup radius, billed beyond it. Berthing fees are minor around Bali but real on longer routes, running through the APA. Crew gratuity is customary, 5 to 15 percent of the base rate, handed to the captain. It is never mandatory.
